Back2Fitness Sports & General Injury Clinic Poole and Bournemouth treats a wide range of elbow injuries or elbow pain.

The most common injury to the elbow is Tennis Elbow, although categorised as tennis complaint can occur in the home or workplace or in any situation where the elbow is repeatedly bending and gripping at the wrist. This happen in racquets sports; tennis, squash, badminton, but other sports like fishing and canoeing as well as everyday repetitive activities can result in this condition. The pain is localised on the outside of the elbow (lateral aspect) where the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB) tendon is damaged resulting in degeneration leading to a tendinopathy otherwise referred at Lateral Epicondylitis.

The factors that can cause Tennis players to suffer this condition can be:- poor technique, overuse, incorrect grip size, heavy racquet, muscle imbalances/weaknesses and poor blood supply to the tendon.

A treatment protocol would be formulated by the Back2Fitness Sports & General Injury Clinic therapists, Assessing not only the elbow but relative nerves and neck (cervical spine) due to being associated to pain on the lateral aspect of the elbow. The treatment protocol would consist of localised soft tissue techniques and exercise rehabilitation.

When pain is experienced on the inside of the elbow it is referred to as Golfer's Elbow or Medial Epicondylitis. The pain and tenderness can be a reaction to ligament sprains, overuse, direct trauma or referred symptoms.

The common cause of the pain is the muscle pull wherer they attach to the bone, resulting in them becoming inflammed, painful and tender.

Our Sports Therapists will examine and assess the elbow as well as potentially other contributing areas to identify the cause of the dysfunction and pain. Treatment will be dependent on the injury cause, consisting of soft tissue techniques, ultrasound and joint and/or vertebral mobilisation.
