Plantar Fascitis and Foot Injury Treatment

Plantar Fasciitis is a common foot condition that result in heel pain and pain in the sole of the foot. The Plantar Fascia is a fibrous sheath that runs from the base of the heel to the base of the toes. During movements such as walking or running the Plantar Fascia is stretched during the toe off phase and aid the foot during the push off phase, as it is charged simpler to an elastic band.

Plantar Fascitis symptoms and treatment

The Plantar Fascia is damaged usually at its insertion onto the heel bone, pain however does radiate down the Plantar Fascia as well as being present at the heel. Pain is worse in the morning when taking the first few steps of the day. This is because the damaged tissue has been healing over night and tightening, then it is being re-damaged in the morning during the first few steps.

At Back2Fitness our Therapists would examine and assess this problem to why and how it has occurred. The initial treatment would consist of conservative treatment to reduce the tightness in the fascia, reduce the inflammation, correct any biomechanical errors and promote healing.

Other cause of foot pain or injury

Morton's Neuroma: Morton's Neuroma is a thickening of the intermetatarsal plantar nerves, commonly occuring between the third and forth intermetatarsal spaces. Sufferers of the condition usually experience numbness and pain particularly on weight bearing. Pain is usually felt when pressue is put on the thickening of the nerve between the metatarsals this is associated with tight fitting or narrow footwear.

The sports therapists at our injury clinics would use soft tissue massage and joint mobilisation to reduce the pain and pressure on the thickening.
