Back2Fitness Sports & General Injury Clinic is a specialist in injury treatment, sports massage and rehabilitation in Poole and Bournemouth. Our clinics offer injury treatment for wide variety of injuries particularly soft tissue injuries.

Muscle Strains

Muscle strains/tears means the contractile tissue producing movement at joints has been damaged. The muscle can be overloaded during everyday life, sport or training resulting in a strain or tear.

RICE protocol should be used to control the damage to the muscle from the bleeding and bruising that can increase pain by putting pressure on nerve endings.

Treatment will focus on increasing the healing rate of the muscle. Rehabilitating the muscle back to its original strength and flexibility. Any associated dysfunction treated also and analyse of any factors why the injury occurred to avoid reoccurrence.

Ligament Sprains

Ligament Sprains usually occur in the ankle otherwise known as a twisted ankle and the knee, tending to be the medial ligament and/or ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).
The function of a ligament is to attach bone to bone, therefore are found at most joints. They are damaged when a joint is excessively strained causing their tissue to be overloaded.

Most cases of ligament can be treated without the requirement of surgery. Early treatment and care of the ligament is crucial to prevent unnecessary scar tissue that becomes problematic and enable the fastest recovery. The principles of RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) should be followed as soon as possible after the injury occurred.

The severity of muscle or ligament injuries are categorised into one of the three grades:-

Grade 1: Less than 25% of the fibres damaged.
Grade 2: Approximately 50% of the tissue has been torn.
Grade 3: Complete rupture of the soft tissue structure.

The treatment of sprained ligaments consists of specific soft tissue techniques including sports massage, ultrasound, rehabilitation of muscular strength around the joint and proprioception.

Tendon Injuries

Tendinopathies/Tendinitis/Tendinosis is a well-debated chronic injury of tendons commonly seen in the Achilles tendon. This condition is categorised with pain first thing in the morning and thickening of the tendon.

Combinations of techniques are required as soon as possible to allow a quicker recovery and reduce the risk of further severe problems. The tendons treatment consists of specific soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises and ultrasound.
